Moore Capital has hired Barry Schachter as its director of quantitative resources, according to parties familiar with the hire. Schachter, who joined the US hedge fund in mid-June, will head its risk management, trade group analysis and financial engineering functions.
He will also aid Moore Capital’s portfolio managers in analysing strategies and markets. Moore Capital has about $10 billion in funds under management.
Based in New York, Schachter will report to Mohsen Fahmi, chief operating officer at Moore Capital.
Schachter has previously worked as chief risk officer at Balyasny Asset Management, as a managing director of risk management at SAC Capital Advisors and as head of risk management at Caxton Associates.
Prior to his move into the hedge fund industry in February 2000, Schachter worked in the market risk department of Chase Manhattan Bank, and held economist posts at both the US Comptroller of the Currency and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Schachter wrote a column in Risk about risk management issues facing the hedge funds industry between December 2005 and June 2006.
