ING secures derivatives licence in China
Dutch financial group ING has secured a derivatives licence to operate in the Chinese city of Shanghai.
The bank said the China Banking Regulatory Commission has approved its licence application and it expects to start trading derivatives with local and international customers later this month. It will offer currency, interest rate and credit derivatives such as forwards, options, swaps and structured products.
“We anticipate that demand for derivatives products will strengthen as our clients look for enhanced yield and performance or seek to reduce exposure to fluctuations in financial markets,” ING’s country manager for China, Jean-Francois Gillard, said in a statement.
ING already offers international customers the ability to trade domestic equities and renminbi-denominated treasuries in China.
