Derivatives expert to run BarCap Americas

Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of the UK's Barclays, has named Peter Goettler head of its investment banking division in the Americas.

Goettler will assume leadership for relationship banking and loan product areas in the US and Latin America, in addition to his current duties as head of debt capital markets in the Americas, where he is responsible for debt origination, asset-backed securities, corporate derivatives marketing and private placements.

Goettler will report to Grant Kvalheim, head of global credit products and investment banking.

The move follows Barclays Capital's decision to consolidate management of its corporate client coverage and debt origination in the Americas. Robert Griffin, who held the position of managing director and head of investment banking for the Americas during the past two years, has left the bank. Griffin was unavailable for comment.

Barclays poached both Kvalheim and Goettler alongside other key bond dealing staff from Deutsche Bank in London and New York, to build up its debt capital markets business in the US in May last year.
