Uncertainty drives US inflation market

Inflationary fears have begun to spook the US market again. And the accompanying surge in inflation derivatives trading activity in North America has highlighted the aggressive pricing of some recent entrants into the dealer market. By Jayne Jung

Renewed fears about US inflation have prompted institutional investors and banks to flock to the inflation market. Insurance companies and hedge funds, in particular, have been significant participants in the wave of inflation hedging activity during October and November. Insurers have been selling inflation-linked paper, while funds' activity has been concentrated in inflation-linked assets swaps.
