BNP hires in commodity derivatives, following departures

French bank BNP Paribas has made four appointments in its commodity derivatives business, following the departure of two senior members of its team last month.

Sebastien Lemoine joins BNP as London-based head of structured transactions from rival Société Générale. Meanwhile, Alberto Vogel and Shawn Xie join BNP's commodity team in New York, where Vogel will cover Latin American clients for energy derivatives marketing and Shawn Xie will develop structured commodity options products. Both join the firm from Sempra Trading.

On the Singapore desk, Lu Jia joins from Shell Trading in Houston to develop the Asian over-the-counter derivative structured business. Also, Nick Croom will relocate from London to Singapore to cover OTC energy client sales.

In early May, Dutch bank ABN Amro hired Wayne Harburn, BNP's former head of European energy trading, as well as Vincent Chevance, the French bank's head of marketing for energy derivatives.
