UK banks unprepared

In a survey of 44 UK banks conducted in mid-March, Chase Cooper said 72% of the respondents were unprepared for the implementation of the Basel recommendations. Zag Asghar, a director at Chase Cooper, said: “The results of the survey were against our expectations of more awareness and readiness among the banks for the requirements of Basel II.” He added that the medium-sized and smaller banks are the least prepared for the Accord, as there was a “wait-and-see” attitude among them.
