Using trading restrictions in replicating portfolios

With replicating portfolios, smaller is generally better. Existing optimisation methods for constructing replicating portfolios, however, often include all candidate instruments. The addition of trading restrictions helps select only the most relevant instruments, improving the performance of the replicating portfolio.
