Hedge fund indices have seen widespread growth over the past few years, reflecting both the general growth of the hedge fund industry and the strengthening position of indices in relation to other investment vehicles, such as funds of funds. The interest in indices is mainly driven by institutional investors, who have a strong preference for low-fee, transparent and risk-controlled investments. Derivatives such as exchange-traded certificates based on hedge fund indices have also been launched.
