Financial regulation will remain a top priority for European energy firms throughout 2017 as they prepare for the arrival of the most stringent set of commodity derivatives rules yet. The second Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (Mifid II) ushers in a new era for commodities regulation. Taking effect on January 3, 2018, the regime brings more commodity products, venues and participants into regulatory scope than ever before.
