CFTC chair nominated as Chilton exits

US President Barack Obama has nominated Timothy Massad as the next chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), replacing current chairman Gary Gensler.

Massad currently serves as assistant secretary for financial stability at the US Treasury in Washington, DC. In the role, he was responsible for winding down the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program, which was set up to buy distressed assets from banks in the wake of the 2008 global financial collapse.
