US equities spur leveraged return notes

Structured product creators have responded to the four-year high of the S&P 500 with a surge of new products linked to the index, which hit 1,426.68 on August 21, its highest intra-day rise since May 2008.

Many of the new products are leveraged return notes that give investors the chance to achieve accelerated returns on the index. Goldman Sachs, Barclays, JP Morgan, Royal Bank of Canada and Deutsche Bank have all filed leveraged returns with US regulator the Securities and Exchange Commission
