Garland Hansmann's career in credit may have had a fairly unconventional start - as a technician on the production line of a boiler manufacturer - but he has since risen through the ranks to become European head of credit research at Credit Suisse Asset Management.

Hansmann's first foray into the world of finance was as a loan officer at Dresdner Bank in Cologne in 1992. During the next seven years, he progressed up the ladder to become currency overlay fixed-income portfolio manager in the bank
