At first glance, Taiwan appears to bear more than just a passing resemblance to South Korea. Both countries’ economies are strongly export-focused, both have had long experience with international capital raising, and both have traditionally had a strong reliance on the equity markets. But while South Korea has worked hard to consolidate its banking sector and open its economy to foreign investment and competition, Taiwan has retained many of the capital restrictions imposed
