Viacom tapped the investment-grade market with a multi-tranche $4.75 billion private placement in April, marking the year's third-largest corporate debt transaction and Viacom's inaugural issue since splitting from broadcast division CBS at the end of 2005.

The proceeds of the deal will be used to refinance $6 billion of bank debt that Viacom incurred to fund a $5.4 billion special dividend to CBS shareholders as the entertainment group split in two. The break-up was designed to boost flagging
