BarCap names Marsaglia as FIG chairman

Barclays Capital has appointed Stefano Marsaglia as chairman of the global financial institutions group.

Marsaglia joins after 17 years at Rothschild, where his most recent position combined responsibilities as global co-head of FIG and co-head of investment banking for Europe. He managed the FIG team from 2004, and helped to deliver a number of high-profile transactions for firms including Banco Santander, Intesa and Unicredito.

Marsaglia will report jointly to Jeffrey Weiss, head of global financial institutions in New York, and John Winter, the London-based head of investment banking EMEA. Marsaglia will also be based in London, and his position is newly created within Barclays Capital’s investment banking division.

Since the start of the year, the IBD EMEA team has hired around 80 people, including European heads in 11 out of 12 global sector teams. Recruitments have predominantly been in equity capital markets, risk solutions and M&A.
