Obama calls for comprehensive energy bill

While Obama praised the House of Representatives for passing the American Clean Energy and Security Act in June 2009, he said he was “eager to help advance the bipartisan effort in the Senate”.

The Act, introduced to the Senate in September 2009 by senators Barbara Boxer and John Kerry, has since stalled. Kerry is now re-working the legislation with Republican senator Lindsey Graham and independent senator Joe Lieberman in a bid to attract more support from across the upper chamber of the US
