EEI warns over cost of environmental regulation

Power generators have protested that the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) proposed tightening of standards related to the emission of particulate matter in the US would create the most expensive federal regulation since records began in 1981.

The Edison Electric Institute, an association of shareholder-owned utilities, has estimated that the costs to its members would reach between $20 billion and $60 billion per year.
