Extreme mortality bond issuance predicted to expand as spreads tighten

Reinsurers are expected to ramp up the issuance of life insurance-linked securities (ILS) following SCOR Global Life's placement of an $180 million extreme mortality bond last Friday.

The Atlas IX special purpose vehicle will provide SCOR with collateralised reinsurance protection from extreme US mortality losses over a five-year period.
