Change in shorting policy adds value to the market

The turbulent Japanese market is unsure territory, but is presenting opportunities for long/short funds, making it one of this year's most popular strategies.

John Paul-Temperley, a manager on the Martin Currie Absolute Return Japan fund, believes there are good shorting opportunities in the sector despite an anticipated turnaround in the Japanese economy.

Japan was in an 18-month bear market up to autumn last year when companies began aggressive cost cutting and the government put its weight
