In 2002, the bullish predictions that ritually accompany each New Year in the Asian derivatives market might just have some justification. The outlook for interest rate derivatives growth and new product lines looks promising, and banks seem to be putting their balance sheets where their mouths are. New swaps desks are being formed and trading licenses sought, while swaps traders are being poached from rivals with ever-higher bonus inducements.
